Thanks for the feedback. While it's not currently possible at LQ, we have rolled the feature out at CQ so it's likely it will be available here after the pending code update.
Jefro, the most common use of "tags" I've seen is "tags" on items such as blog posts, including posts here at LQ, which allow you to list one or more words or phrases describing the content. This article discusses tagging. (Lifewire.com seems to be related in some way to about.com.)
In this excerpt from the article, though, I think the highlighted sentence is what OP refers to:

So, to define "tagging," you would essentially be assigning a keyword or phrase that describes the theme of a group of articles, photos, videos, or other types of media files as a way to organize them and access them easily later. A tag can also be used to assign a piece of content to another user.
I'm fairly sure that michele_deb is referring to what might be termed "user mention notifications", where a member can "tag" a member in the content of a post e.g. by writing @hydrurga, and then that member will be notified that they have been tagged in the post. It is a way of drawing other members' attentions to particular posts, especially useful I imagine if the member being tagged isn't actually subscribed to the thread in question.
This is why I have not knowledge of it. I don't use social media.
You are most welcome. (sigh of relief) I was somewhat worried that I might have been out of line, as LQ supports tagging of posts when you start a thread.
I used to use Facebook before I realized that the Zuckerborg was attempting to assimilate everything and sell it for mammon. I still have an account and must log in from time to time on behalf of some groups I participate in, but I can't remember the last time I posted to my own account.
If you post a picture there, you can "tag" the persons in a picture. If you mouse over the picture, the name of the individuals in it pop up.
It is quite intrusive and rather creepy, and average users don't give a thought to the fact that they are running naked through the internet and dragging their friends and families with them.
You signature made me chuckle, by the way. I was trapped at a stoplight today by some clown whose head was buried in his phone.

Yes, what I meant was something like "user mention notifications".
