Suggestions to improve LQ site.

:)
If possible, please provide scan computer and remote desktop possibilities for those who are intersted, but first you should help users to find suitable modem driver for their linux OS by providing modem drivers.
As i see many LQ site users connect by windows OS,possibly because they can not connect to the internet using their Linux OS!

Hi,

If you have a problem then you can turn to LQ and all users here will do their best to help you. I don't think it's in the community's interest to provide drivers, scan options and remote desktop functions since all of those are available (most of the time for free) on the internet.

Apparently you too do have a problem connecting with Linux since you're posting from a Windows OS. If Jeremy should include drivers and such, then I'm afraid he'll go beyond the scope of the LinuxQuestions goal. But that's just my opinion.

Kind regards,

Eric

Well! we assume that i have a problem! then ,you can use the scanner to scan whole PC or some needed drives or use remote desktop to see what you can do to help me,thus helping me will be quicker and faster and with less time spent! Otherwise sometimes you have to ask many questions and i have to print many data to show that to you.
Thanks irajjs

You forgot to say please ;-p Seriously Linuxquestions nor any other Linux-related forum I am aware of provides a kind of RDP service and for the love of $deities I hope we never will. Sure a member could act on his/her own volition and offer such help but you would have to judge yourself if you would allow that kind of access which may be hard if you are a fresh Linux user.

That's the price you pay for learning stuff.

Ok! Please read my explanation:
I usually receive a weekly email from LQ site. The last email was asking to suggest someting about improving LQ site, then i replied which is shown as a new post( possibly the site manager wants this to be discussed on),then although i didn't like to participate in discussion about that but since my senior friend kindly answered, this caused me to defend my idea! So it was just a suggestion and i hadn't asked for any help to say or not to say "Please",that is the whole story! and finally although i didn't fully understand what you meant but any way thank you for your attention to my post.
Regards.

Hello,

I kind of understand what you're referring to and I for one don't believe it's something that should be offered through the LQ website. First think about the diversity in hard- and software, if you wanted to do something like that you'd need to do it professionally and thorough, meaning that you'd need to provide drivers, patches and the likes for ALL available hard- and software, since you don't know what a user has bought/installed. Providing that would be a HUGE task which in my personal opinion if beyond the scope of LQ. LQ users help others by pointing out the problems and guiding users towards solutions, be it with a link to a driver or a complete solution. On the other hand I for one would like 'someone' from 'a website' to scan my computer. That's a huge security issue. I have all the confidence in the world that Jeremy wouldn't do harm but he also is only human and with one simple coding error in a function like that an end user's complete system might be 'published' worldwide. Things like that make me go back in time when I was still using Windows, all the spamware, addware, malware, and so on that kept telling me I was infected and if wanted I could scan my system online.

Also like unSpawn mentioned, if you have a problem and someone here at LQ helps you out, you'll learn a lot more about your system then when you use an 'automated function' from a website.

Kind regards,

Eric

The point of LQ is to teach people, not just fix their problems.

Hello
I completely agree with this, actually most possibly i will never ask someone to scan my PC!But,firstly many people need this, secondly there should be protocols for that, thirdly only some certified people should be allowed to use scanner, and finally scanning should be based on agreement between the one who has a problem and helper,so scanning could be agreed to be for one folder or a partition or whole computer.
Here i want to mention that right now many sites(computers) have the ability to penetrate into computers and many software provider sites(even operating system makers!) have managed their software in a way that they easily control computers!

Yes off course! but people learn something to fix problems,so the end point is fixing problems and improving, and fixing problems has no opposition with teaching, because both could be done simultaneously, even a better teaching would be possible if helper knows what is exactly needed to be taught.

I personally prefer to not to continue this discussion but i leave this to be open to help improve LQ site.

With my best wishes for those who try to help others and, thank you all.

Thanks for the feedback. We have absolutely no plans to offer any kind of remote login capabilities to LQ at this time.
