Suggestion: Let's sort them in a,b,c... order

Hello all,
here's my suggestion:
Why don't we sort distros in LinuxQuestions.org > Forums > Linux
Linux - Distributions
in ascending order according to their names?
I understand, that's not a big deal to find the distro one is interested in, but again it would keep this part of forum "neat" and sorted

yeah i guess that makes a lot of sense. can't immediately see a downside at all. would also put ubuntu where it belongs

Do you really want to make it harder for the masses of Ubuntu newbies to find the right forum? It should probably be at the top, while the rest are sorted. Otherwise, the risk of someone posting in the wrong forum will just increase...

I sincerely doubt that alphabetising the list would make a whole lot of difference

This was an ongoing discussion once amongst the mods and Jeremy. I think it was decided that it's better to leave in the order now since it's the order they joined. I think the other reason was, who cares about the order, there's more important things to handle and worry about than the alphabetization of the distro forum.

Honestly, I don't get it, how can alphabetization make harder for newbies to find the distro :O
It's not so important when there are 20 or so distros, but if the list continues to grow, you'll get quite a mess
Anyways, if it was "my" forum, I'd sort it, but since it's not... LQ is still great place to ask questions and get answers

not a discussion i remember actually... there's clearly no downside at all. yes it's trivial, but everything is "trivial" compared to the ultimately futile struggle of the human condition within the bounds of a fundamentally doomed universe, no?

As mentioned, the distribution forums are sorted by the order they joined LQ. We have no plans at this time to change that. Thanks for the feedback.

ok, it does make a sense. That's a quite an incentive for distros to join forum.
I think it'll be OK for me to close the thread.
