Suggestion: How about a Sticky for Wireless problems?

Frank Bell has done a fine article called “HOWTO Get Broadcom Wireless Working with Linux” under “Linux-Wireless Networking”:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ux-4175434970/

This article deals specifically with Broadcom wireless cards.

Since there are so many queries regarding general wireless problems in Linux, would it not be a good idea if LQ had a “sticky” for this regular topic?

A typical thread starts with “No wireless” or “Wireless not working” and has little detailed information. The post can appear under many different LQ forum headings, not just Networking.

LQ members who want to help then try to extract the relevant information over a whole series of posts. It is a bit like pulling teeth.
This “ping pong” routine takes time and it is frustrating for all concerned, especially the original poster who is beginning to think, “Maybe I should go back to Windows”.

There is a sticky on the Ubuntu forums called “HOWTO post a Wireless issue”:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...81#post6183681

If posters with wireless problems were referred to a similar sticky in LQ then at least they could supply most of the relevant information in a single hit.
This would allow helpers to “zero in” on the specific problem more rapidly and hopefully get the OP's wireless up and running quickly.

I am not a wifi expert, so if one or more of the wifi gurus on LQ wishes to take up the baton for a LQ Wireless sticky, along the lines of the Ubuntu one, then please feel free.

Just a suggestion!
