Suggestion for new topic area (Music/Musicians)

There are a growing number of musicians interested in using Linux, however the support is greatly lacking. There are a number of packages out there, some of them cross platform like Audacity but which generate a number of Linux specific questions. Just dealing with Jack Audio should almost be a whole seperate forum but it's something any Linux musician is likely to run into as it seems like everything except Audacity requires JACK audio to use.

The creation of a Linux Musicians/Music forum I think will help us come together and find solutions to recording in Linux. Asking these questions in general interest forums they just get buried in the background noise and never answered or answered with I don't know kinds of answers.

I'll vote against this. If we have Software--->Music, then we'll need Software--->WordProcessing, SW--->Graphics, etc. etc.

I would think that the level of traffic in Software would determine whether a particular sub-category is needed.

Well, there can be an Audio section and maybe Video as well, but would this really help somehow ?

Thanks for the feedback. Music/Musicians is a fairly specific topic that fits pretty well within the existing LQ structure (be it a hardware-related music issue, a software-related music issue, etc.). To get a dedicated forum or subforum, there has to be significant demand and significant thread volume, or as indicated the number of forums would very quickly become unmanageable.

I don't know if a forum like this would help. As are a lot of people who just started using Linux just remember. It's not windows....
I know one problem I may have in the future when I put Linux on my new i7 machine. Right now I'm experimenting on my old box and running
with 2 hard drives. However inside the new box I installed a ESI Maya44e which is not a sound card but a audio interface card. I assume
I will probably have a problem with hardware reconition with the new machine. I have no experience installing 3rd party drivers yet. If anyone has done this let me know. If not I'll get back later.

Unfortunately this is only asked for by people requiring information (as opposed to those providing nfos). I'm putting it this way because personally speaking I'd say that (if you have a few knowledgeable and dedicated GNU/Linux people around) to me that would sound like a pretty good and unique selling point for starting ones own niche forum (as in the complementing sense in the existing GNU/Linux panoply of fora.) I vaguely remember one member advertising exactly such a forum a few years ago. Unfortunately I forgot the pointer.
