subforum/s for desktop/s, internet software?

We're interested in your thoughts on additional Linux - Software subforums, so post in the Website Suggestions & Feedback forum if you have any ideas.
It seems a little odd to me that there is no forum dedicated to desktops. Some questions relate particularly to a desktop and/or its tools. Likewise, internet browsers, mail and news readers seem to constitute a category worthy of separate mention.

Nah, they seem to fit fine in Linux - Software. The LQ team are always interested in suggestions but they don't seem to like expanding the number of forums without absolute necessity. LQ doesn't have very many mods compared to other forums of this size and stretching them out to cover another forum isn't always a great idea.

Wait to see what somebody who's opinion actually counts has to say but yeah, there's my 2c to go with yours

The opinions of all of our members count

Sub-forums or new forums are only really added if a clear need for them can be shown - such as Linux-Kernel which was recently created. Desktop/Software questions would usually fall under Linux-Software, but could also come under the particular distro being used. Since there wouldn't be that clear line of demarcation, it is unlikely that a sub-forum would be created.

We're looking into what to do with Linux - Software now. No decision has been made yet, but the topic is being actively debated, so you should expect a decision soon. As always, feel free to post your feedback on the topic here.

I quite like the broad scope of Linux - software, i find myself browsing these forums more to learn new things than get questions answered. Having such a diverse set of problems and solutions in 1 section allows me to learn a whole lot more than if it was split into sub sections (i have neither time nor inclination to scour through so many different ones, which is what keeps me out of the distro specific ones really).

Just a personal opinion, but then if a few people share it i guess it would suggest that by having lots of smaller sub-forums would not give adequate explosure to some problems, yet may help provide more targetted, area specific expert help.

Hmmm so there we are, after all that i'm still sitting on the fence

Nope. Your opinion counts, and we are grateful for you sharing it, but we can't go giving out that sort of power willy-nilly - the mods would have nothing to do

Ignore lists, however, are on a by-person basis - not a by-post... so it's not really an option.
