Sub Forum Postings

I like the way this forum is presented. I notice that the number of posts in both the ubuntu subforum and the fedora subforum here are not great in numbers like the ones in the ubuntu and fedora specific forums elsewhere.

My preference is not to have to visit multiple places to get the support I need and to help others.

That said I do notice in the distro specific forums that many posts are more general in nature like rpm or apt-get posts asking how to code for a specific thing. Maybe these types of posts are elsewhere in this forum.

This forum software and the ubuntu forum software appear to be well maintained and free of bugs but there are other vbulletin forum software that have absentee owners and have bugs that just do not get fixed. To me there is not call for broken links and editors that do not work correctly.

But the purpose of this post is not to rant but I am looking for one place for support for both ubuntu and fedora or anything else that I choose to use in the future.

So if you are reading this post and have much experience here then maybe you could shed some light on this issue. Hopefully if (virtually that is) combine your searches here to both distro and non distro specific searches you would wind up with the same answers you would get in the larger forums. Sometimes more is not better.

Comments are welcome please.

Part of the issue is that a lot of ubuntu and fedora questions get spread around the rest of the site, they don't just live within their own subforum. Secondly, both of those distros maintain their own support forums. In cases like Slackware, where LQ is the official support forum, it is hard to find a better wealth of help.

To be honest, I haven't found a better site for multiple forms of Linux than this one. However, as I said before, distros that maintain their own forums are going to put their efforts into those rather than here. In some extreme cases, Gentoo for example, there isn't a forum here at all because the distro maintainers won't commit to supporting a forum here at LQ.

Personally, I find the distro specific searches to be of limited use unless I'm running into an issue around configuring a specific distro or I'm using something that doesn't exist outside of that distro. For example, if I'm looking for information on making a Slackbuild, I'll search just the Slackware forum, but if I have a problem with OpenOffice, I'll search the entire forum.
