sub-forum of the day

how about a random daily link to the sub-forum of the day to encourage those that normally arent interested in e.g. programming would browse a few threads and maybe be able to provide advice ?

I think this idea is worth looking at. It might also serve to introduce members to forums they seldom visit.

I know I have a pattern I follow. It might get me to look into forums I seldom visit.

Giving people the option to view sub-fora they avoid, because they are not interested in those subjects, will encourage them to view anyway? Doubtful.

It's possible we could include a link to some of the lesser frequented fora in the Community Bulletin. I'd be interested in other non-obtrusive ways members think we could help surface under utilized areas.

I think the community bulletin likely would not yield much in the way of notice. Maybe a forum of the week that could be linked right under the number of "New Posts" on the front page?

Just a thought. I like the idea of somehow spotlighting some of the lesser-traveled forums (except for the distro forums--they might be too specialized), but I have no idea how doing that might appear from the backend.
