Stop posts in the LQ members intro forum adding to your overall post count

Hello all,

I have noticed that posts made in the members intro forum add to your overall post count.
As this is not strictly a Linux question, i would suggest that posts made here are treated the same as posting in Non-*NIX/general.
And therefore do not add to your total number of posts.
Your thoughts on the subject are welcome...

The whole point of the forum is to allow new members to make a legit first post and then make a legit URL post (if that's what they need). Otherwise we see a lot of nonsense posts just so they can post a URL as a response/fix. The Member Intro section was made countable for just that reason.

Ok, i didn't know that.
However, i do feel certain members here abuse that function.

Yes and no. For members, its a way to up the post count and still being useful. While saying a simple "hello" has no value in the technical sense, it is vastly preferable that a member respond to every new member thread that way than by smegging up technical threads with obvious post count posts.

Sorry guys but can we stop behaving as if we were back in primary school, and start focusing on things that matter, ie. why emacs is better than vi, or why linux rules, etc.
Seriously, within a short period of time it's been the second post of this kind. The first one was about certain members having the guru title well below 5000 posts and now about possible abuses of the Intro section. Who cares? Well, the OP does

Fortunately, our mighty mods are forgiving and don't seem to be bothered with such insignificant details.
Thanks Bob for that

I often post a welcome message in the LQ member intro forum, but I've never thought about incrementing the post count. I am concerned about make new members feel their message has been received and their introduction appreciated. A human (not robotic) response upon subscription to LinuxQuestions.

Some of the intro posts that I have come to may have 60 views and no replies. I answer a lot of the intro posts. I think it will make new member respond and participate if his threads are responded to in a timely fashion. I do not post a second or third post to those threads.

What are the member levels anyway? How many posts do you need to post to become a posting guru? I can't help thinking of "How much wood would a woodchuck chuck..."

Jeremy- shouldn't you add "LQ Veteran" to the list on the FAQ (added recently?)
