I'm not aware of any netiquette around this issue. I'd like to hear what the mods/admins and other users think is the best way to deal with what is IMO only a minor issue, but still an issue.

Myself and some other users post 'spam reported' on threads when we report posts. I do it so that the admins/mods dont get flooded with reports from a single user.

Which works well, if I see 'user XXXX reported' posts I dont send the admins/mods duplicate reports.

There is one minor problem- if/when the posts from that user are deleted, it can leave posters on that thread wondering why there is a 'user XXXX reported' post that doesnt make sense. Like here-

What would be the prefered method for users to alert other users that a report has been made, and avoid multipule reports on the same issue while keeping the threads cleaner?

Should I stop with those posts, and just let the admins/mods just deal with multipule reports? Or report my post, pointing out the spam but also pointing out what is otherwise a useless post so that it can be deleted?

From my experience the "Spam reported" posts normally also are deleted by the mods. Seems to be an accident in that thread that it was not deleted.

The forum software knows how to organize multiple reports of the same post. Don't worry about it.

As TobiSGD said. Usually we delete the indicted post and all the related replies. As a general rule, I'd say that addressing the spammed post inside the affected thread is not necessary. The report is enough to make the mods team act accordingly and put in place all the countermeasures. Silently reporting posts is already a valuable help from LQ users and really appreciated!

Regarding the aforementioned thread I have reported the post again, so that a moderator of the forum can do a complete clean-up. Thank you.

Yes. This answers the actual question. Multiple reports of the same post will be appended into the same Report and the moderators will be notified only once.

Thinking about it, of course someone would have coded a feature like that. It makes sense. Thinking even more, a 'report user' function for the serial spam-bots (not the posts from real users that are for some reason questionable) would probably make sense as well. I've got no idea how easy that would be to impliment though, as you can tell I'm not really a forum software expert.

@ colucix- OK. From now on I'd drop the 'post reported' posts, if only to save you mods from having more stuff to delete.

Its funny how one small feature of software which can be almost invisible to users who arent in the know (like the 'organize multiple reports' function here) can make a diffence in the usage.
