Software adverts

Just something that I noticed as I logged on today, why is there an advert for a Windows application on the main page? I am talking about Spyware Doctor. I have noticed it before, but think it is pointless having an advert for Windows software on a Linux :Pengy: forum site. Who is going to use it? I know most of us are probably using both OS's, but come on guys.
Anyway, enough of that. This is a great site, I wish I knew more about Linux than I do but I am learning. :)

They're probably based on site content (like adwords), so you can't control what is being advertised. It's only a guess.

Do you have the ad URL? Alternatively, my view is that if a company based on Windows wants to give some of their profits to us I'm all for it :)

Asking to remove advertisements that are Microsoft based on a Linux site is kind of like asking to remove Japanese car advertisements here in America. If they want to pay to advertise and the company they're paying benefits from it, who really cares right? Deal with it and worry about other things instead.

Well, maybe it's Spyware Doctor for Linux - it keeps your computer safe from infection by Windows :)

This is not a knock at LQ in any way. I just thought it strange that a Windows based software manufacturer would want to advertise on a Linux forum.
Yes if they want to spend their money with the site I am all for it. Just noticed this one on the home page as well: http://www.pctools.com/registry-mech..._RON_RM_300_07
I suppose it is pointing out one thing, Windows users need all of this type of software to keep their systems free of infection & bloat. At least we don't need to be as worried with this sort of stuff.
I wasn't asking for the adverts to be removed, I just found it a strange place to advertise Windows based software.

My thoughts exactly. I had to laugh first time I saw it.

And that's why I didn't start this thread myself a couple weeks ago. :D

When you consider how many Linux users dual-boot with Windows, it all makes sense. But it does set you back a wee bit at first glance, doesn't it?

Cheers

Well, not totally strange to advertise anywhere, that's why it's called advertising. Linux users most likely use a computer. Windows software also runs on computers. We can all say members on this site use computers. I'm willing to bet 80% of the users on this site or visitors still use Windows in some type of way. So we can all agree now that advertising is just advertising, nothing strange about a Windows application advertisement on a mostly Linux site.
