Search engine

I think search engine is not very accurate for finding answers to what do you need.
Intesad of searching for the whole sentence, it looks posts where any of the words you entered is present. This ends up showing a lot of threads that has nothing to do with your searching and makes the search very very difficult.

Is there any way to improve search engine to be more accurate for what you ask for?

Just have to be detailed as possible, try to possibly narrow it down to the forum it's most suitable in, the amount of days to search back on, etc. You can always use google.com as well, but in the end, you're always going to get some results that don't matter due to the few keywords that are included.

Linuxquestions.org is big, been around for a while, so by searching generic terms is going to produce a lot of generic discoveries. This is one of the reasons that the tags system was setup to help with searching of the forums and site.

If you put a phrase in quotes, it will search for the phrase. That being said, a lot of people seem to not understand how the search works. Unless there are any objections, I am going to change the default to search posts as opposed to threads, which will almost certainly improve the default results (at least from a perception perspective). Thoughts?

I'm sure if it causes any problems there'll be posts about it Try it for a few weeks and see what the response is.

I hope it works out well Jeremy. Thanks for staying on top of things.

Hammett, if you want to search for a phrase, use quotes like you would in google. For example:
"which distro should I use"
