Same post in different forums
Hi all!
I was just wondering that since the rules of LQ do not permit a member to make the same post in different forums or cross post, what would you do. This is just a general question and I don't want any flame posts. If the moderators feel that this post is unjustified, kindly close it and accept my sincere apologies (in advance :D) |
I knew that people would have a hard time participating in this poll.

if the person is new and is unfamiliar with the froum rules then tell them (in the nicest possible way) that it is against the forums rules and if they do it again they will be reported.

Questions or polls regarding this site belong and are more suitable in Website Questions and Suggestions.
And if you know the answer to a member who's double posted, try answering the one in the most appropiate forum, then report the others to a moderator. |
Very nicely said nexx.
I once made the same post in two forums and trickykid caught me :( Well that was a long time ago. :D |

The same thing should also go if you post in the wrong forum. Reporting your own post and asking it to be moved will save us having to close the first.

This post seems to attract all the moderators, now don't it.
Hope this helps increase awareness about LQ rules. Cheers. |

Okay, I admit it. I've just been sitting here hitting 'reload' a lot because I'm bored. Won't happen again.
- Seriously, I did learn something. I thought mods were just psychic. I only thought of reporting blatantly offensive posts (and haven't really seen any) or critical issues (only noticed one) - not minor infractions. Normally, if it's a fluke double post and I know the answer, I state the rule and add the answer. If somebody spams the board with 6 posts and pisses me off, I just state the rule a little more curtly. Otherwise, like I say, I just figured the mods were psychic and surfed on. Now I know. |
LinuxLala,
A couple of things. (1) First the poll is limited. Add options for: "Do nothing. Just Ignore" "Send a personal email to the original poster" (2) Depending on the answer/views, I'll reply in as many forums as I can. Why? Because I am not sure how many people browse all the forums. Generally there's a trend. So for maximum exposure I'll answer where-ever *I* feel it's more likely to get views. (3) It also depends on the question. If it's a self-advertising promotion, I'll be the first one to report it. But if it's about something *I* feel is important, I'll have to sleep over it :D (4) Maybe the moderators (if they are listening) can add a feature where in a user can post in the relevant board and them copy links in other boards. No it sounds ugly. But I mean what if a guy really wants exposure for the benefit of others? |
You are right geeky_kid about the poll being limited. But you probably don't know that only the mods have the luxury of modifying the polls.
You DON'T have to reply in all the forums because the mods can redirect the posts to the most relevant forum once they have closed the thread in other forums. Cheers. |
Hi :) I appreciate the reported posts personally. I tend to browse more "user" like than "moderator" like when I don't quite have the time to sit down for a nice session ;) So it really helps when I get a report of a duplicate, then I can go in and see which one is more appropriately placed, and do my duty accordingly. Though, this does not mean we aren't psychic :D We just, at times, like to see who else likes to help out ;)
