Question Rep:

Has it been suggested to disable the Reputation in the Non-*NIX, General Forums yet?

I must say I'm of two minds on this.

I would wholeheartedly endorse this idea for threads having to do with matters of personal opinion, such as politics, religion, or the merits of various coffees. Nevertheless, as persons also post there requesting assistance with non-*nix operating systems, I can see a place for rep points related to LQ's primary purpose: computer stuff.

I just looked at that forum and I note that the "Did you find this post helpful" line commonly above the "Report" and "Quote" buttons is not present. As a result, anyone who wants to add to Reputation has to positively click the "Rep" item to the left of the post. This leads me to think that anyone who adds to rep would necessarily be motivated to do so.

All I have to contribute to the discussion, then, is a basketful of doubts.

I did forget about the "Yes" not being in the "General" threads when I started this question, good point.

Thanks.

I certainly understand. I had to doublecheck.

Thanks for the feedback. As noted, the "Did you find this post helpful" function is disabled in some fora. We have no plans at this time to disable rep on a per forum basis.

However, the "Add to so-and-so's reputation" widget is available on those forums.

Truth is that is more reputation beyond when someone marks a post as helpful. Adding to reputation gives about 10 points, doesn't it?

Question

It could be members with 'e.g: more points' give a higher percent, (kinda thought I noticed that?)

So to try and clarify, is it when a "" gives a point == 1 and some others == 10?
