Register a Domain and Help Support LQ

As a thank you for being an LQ member, I'd like to extend a discount on domain registrations. After the discount, proceeds for all domain registrations go to help LinuxQuestions.org. While I realize that these days many places are giving domains away, hopefully some will find this is still reasonably priced and helps support what I hope you consider a good cause Simply enter "LQ3" as a discount code to save $3 off any domain. Thanks!

Excellent timing, Jeremy Well, kinda. I'd love to transfer my new domain to LQ, but I've owned it for less than 60 days. If I wait more than 45 days beyond the date of purchase, my domain will expire. ICANN's policy appears to say that a registrar MAY turn down a request to transfer less than 60 days after initial registration, but not that the registrar MUST turn it down. If an exception can be made, let me know. Otherwise, there's always next year

That blog post explains it well (thanks Ray), although the "more time" bit simply hasn't materialized. Much less sleep, however, has.

troika, that's not something the registrar you're moving to has any control over. I'd say just wait. Thanks though

As it turns out, my domain already existed and was registered with the same service (Registrationtek) before I bought it, which means that as far as they're concerned, there has only been a change of ownership. So I should be good to go. Thanks!

Just a note that LQ3H will get you $3/off the Web Hosting package as well.

As to webhosting, do you allow custom package orders as well? Say I want 2GB space, 15GB bandwidth, etc. would you do that?
And as to the shared plans, would you consider making a kind of optional add on thing? example 2$ more 5 additional MySQL databases or $5 for an additional 1GB of space?

BTW, does that discount get you $3 off per month or year? or does it depend on how you order?

We're just doing a standard plan at the moment to make things a little simpler. That code is just for the first month, but anyone interested in a year can contact me and I'll send you a code for that. Note that year plans also include a free domain for a limited time.

While the LQ3H discount is something we plan to offer for a while, after thinking about it I also want to offer something more as an extra special thanks. The first 10 people who signup using LQ4H-P will get $4 off per month for the first year. I'm also evaluating additional plans and additional options, if you have any feedback please do use the contact us form and let us know. Thanks!

Just a note that due to feedback I have slightly increased the number of LQ4H-P codes available for use. Thanks for all the feedback so far.
