Quoted expression get = # results as the unquoted one in forum search.

Hi:

In the search forum, I search with the string "mplayer -" and I get 38 results. Then I search with mplayer and I get 38 results too. Why is this? Thanks.

My guess is that spaces and other non-letter/number characters are excluded. "minix" and "minix$@#" both return 600 results for me…and they're the exact same results.

Well, "mplaeyr a" returns 166 whereas mplayer a returns 600 results. Therefore, in the first instance the expression was taken "as is". In the second one, the a was dropped for being too common.

LQ is about to incorporate a new search engine that they promise will be powerful.
