I don't mean to be a pain (), but what's happened to the feature that stopped multiple people reporting the same post? I think I just reported a duplicate thread twice, oops.
It would actually be quite nice for those reporting posts to know whether or not a post has been reported though. That way it saves them time in typing up the reason and also lets them know we're already aware of the issue, since multiple members can keep reporting the same post but yet they're not aware it's already been reported.
I mean, I would hate the thought that I'm spending the time reporting a post and it could have already been reported 5 different times..
so, some thicko reports saying "please close this"
and then some smart person comes along and, instead of being told that the post has already been reported, they say that it is a triple post, the other offending posts being in x and y forums and that they are getting the best response in x forum.

Am I right?

It's nice if a member reporting a post gives info to other forums with the same post but a reported post in those forums is necessary too or the moderators of those forums won't be made aware.
For example:
Say member X made a post in Linux - General. It notifies all the moderators of that forum. But in the reported post, the member reporting it also states there are two other identical threads in Linux - Software and Newbie, but no one has reported those. What happens is, the moderators of Linux - General get notified about the triple post but we might not have moderator rights in the other forums, so then we just have to report a post so the other moderators in the other forums know. We then use our best judgement of which one should be left open, usually it's the oldest timestamp unless it's suitable in one of the forums it exists in.
Hopefully that clarifies a little how we get notified and might help us moderators out when dealing with reported posts.
And as the text goes to no waste Jeremy, usually the reported posts are all the same, duplicate here or there, it's usually really trivial. The members who do report posts usually are reporting for the same reasons, that's why I think allowing the second, third or fourth member to come along to report a post that someone has already reported is beneficial and it cuts down on the amount of notifications us mods get.
I'd have to say 90% of the reported posts are just reporting duplicate posts, there's not much explanation given other than, it's a duplicate. Just trying to save some people a little time, even if it only takes a few seconds..
Another question about reporting posts: are we supposed to report posts that are in the wrong place, if they're not our own I mean? I've been doing this, but I should probably have checked first!
