profanity filter?

Whilst I'm certainly not into censorship, I do believe that profanity has no place on a public forum.

Could an optional "profanity filter" be added to our preferences so that those who don't want to see swearwords don't have to?

Profanity filters are tricky beasts, words can have multiple meanings. Is 'pussy' profanity? It could mean a cat, or something else.

If you run in to something that you would really have rather not seen I suggest you click the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of that message.

There are a few unambiguous words that are filtered out. We really don't get too much swearing as it is now.

I personally don't like seeing profanity on a public forum like this and usually try to edit any I have access to.

But like dorward said, sometimes its hard to have a good filter trying to manage what people type, and there are multiple meanings.

But yeah, if you see something you don't like and think it should be edited, feel free to report the post to a moderator.

Hey!

Tricky, you edited one of my posts once when someone was wanting to know where a good public email system was.

It was fsckmicro$oft.com.Of course, take out fsck and replace with other f word. That was may have a profane word in it, but the way it got mispelled would not lead to a real site.

That wasn't tricky, it was automagic. I am going to fix it to make sure it doesn't touch URL's.

OK.

Its not like I dont understand why it did it. But URL's are URL's. The name is exact.

But if you are going to fix that, great. Not like I have some profanic websites to start posting or something.

I suppose I could of just did a link as "here", but oh well.

Just ignore my rambling. Im bored.

Yup, you only get that in Windoze support forums, because the people who ask questions there are very fed up and pissed off.

You know, something like this:

"What do you mean there's no $%#$%ing way to fix a STOP error?!?!?"
