Several times lately, one of the moderators has asked why a newbie posted in the wrong forum.
If you look at a thread index (with the "new thread" button at the top), the text that tells you to what forum you are posting is in a separate block above--and might even be off the top of the screen. Same situation when the new thread compose window is open.
The compose window DOES have the forum name in the banner at the top right--but it is perhaps signigicant that I have **never seen it** until just now---the structure of the compose window tends to focus the eye on the empty spaces to fill in.
How about including the forum name--and appropriate admonitions--right in the text that proceeds the title entry.
The recent questions came because of the number of threads posted incorrectly in the "LQ Suggestions and Feedback". We need to know why it is that people think that that is the most appropriate forum - is it because its the first one they come to?
It's part of the evolution of the site, we are trying to ensure that the differences in the forums are as clear as possible and that the site is easy to use correctly.
I guess it's a dilemma- you want people to find this subforum, for the useful site-news, but it's first in the line of fire for those with oh-so-URGENT questions that they just need to ask right away. (Be honest- you've been there too!)
just some Captain-obvious stuff...
