Now that the contest has officially started I have setup a page where you can see the current standings. As you can see if you click on a user it will show the username, post count and last active date for all referrals. This will make is extremely easy to spot fake referrals, so *please* don't bother. Thanks and have fun!

Just an update. masinick has choosen the white T-shirt and it shipped today. Thanks again to everyone who participated. Now that the contest is over and the prize has been sent, what did everybody think of the first LinuxQuestions.org contest? Would you like to see another one? What kind of prizes would you like to see?
I enjoyed it! Although I personally did not participate (I prefer to point people this way in person ) I think it is a great way to attract attention. Don't forget, though, that this is not the only way to get people to look here - if you write in to a (computer related) magazine, don't forget to plug this site! Overall, though, I think it is a potentially good incentive! Keep it up!
