I think there should be something else besides member. There should be a senior member, or something. Just a thought!

there is - once you get 1000 posts, you become a guru. however, the only people who have 1000 posts are already moderators, so the site has yet to have a pure guru.

also, there's jeremy, who's root. (root == god)

I almost became a Guru, I had like 940 something posts I think when I became a Moderator. Wonder if I can be Moderator-Guru next to my name. :D

A quick question - Does your "designation" make any "actual" difference here on LQ?

XavierP 02-07-2009 08:10 AM

shyamkumar1986 - you do realise that this thread is almost 8 years old? Why dredge it up, particularly since there are more recent and up to date threads discussing member titles.

brianL 02-07-2009 11:15 AM

That must be a record: resurrecting an eight year old thread. Give him a prize! :)

archtoad6 02-09-2009 05:06 PM

One useful thing did come of this resurrection: a reminder that trickykid was once a Mod.

Why not tag all ex-moderators appropriately "Guru (ex-Mod)", perhaps. More useful, would be to tag all posts by Moderators w/ "(as Mod)" or maybe "(when Mod)"-- it would be nice to know that someone is/was a Mod when s/he made a particular post. There are now any number of tricky's posts that make no sense because they are tagged "Guru", but he was a Moderator when he made them.

I am a guru who has never been a moderator.

P.S. When the OP gets to 5,000 posts (which I think is the current guru line) I suggest that Jeremy promote him to General Panic.

jeremy 02-09-2009 05:48 PM

jailbait, to be fair, that was posted in 2001... when very few members had over 1,000 posts. I think I still had the most posts at that time ;)

archtoad6, we have *very* few ex-mods and unfortunately the forum doesn't keep track of the usergroup you were in when you made a specific post.

I meant it as a joke, not a snide remark.

That's what I was afraid the answer would be.
Oh well, thanks for listening.

Hey look! A nine year old thread :-]

brianL 02-10-2011 09:00 AM

Don't forget to post next year at the same time, and say: "Hey, Look! A ten year old thread!" :-]
