Microsoft product banner ads on LQ?
I really like Safari.oreilly.com and O'Reilly in general. I thought it was kind of odd though to see a banner ad for a Microsoft product (SharePoint) on LQ. Neat Nutshell artwork (although turkeys would be more fitting to the subject).
Banner Image: http://images5.fotki.com/v81/photos/...s_Guide-vi.jpg Link: Code:
http://ad.doubleclick.net/click;h=v3|3281|0|0|%2a|p;16323914;0-0;0;9353322;933-120|600;10292546|10310442|1;;~sscs=%3fhttp://www.oreilly.com/catalog/sharepoint/ I doubt if Microsoft will get many converts here, and O'Reilly probably won't sell many copies of this book either. Since there are plenty more relevant books for O'Reilly to advertise on LQ (Zope, Plone, Python, etc.), someone might want to suggest updating the banner rotation for this site--unless this is some kind of experiment. You also might want to verify that you really want to show your institutional ad so frequently. I didn't do the math but I bet it's over 95% of the time: http://images9.fotki.com/v185/photos...rad_sky-vi.jpg Cheers! |
this issue has already been discussed elsewhere on this forum, so you may want to search through website suggestions & themes to see other peoples responses.

I don't know if it is a feature or a bug, but just thought that I would call it to someone's attention. I understand the funding issues and don't have any problems at all with tastefully placed banner ads such as the ones on LQ. Thanks, |
Take a look at this thread.

Ah, yes. Now I see, and thanks. I should have searched on "advertising" instead of "banner".
I see IBM pumping millions into all things open source these days, so they might be a good potential banner customer. Anyway, thanks for the explanation. |
FWIW, those are O'Reilly ads and not Microsoft ads. O'Reilly advertises all of their new books here.
