Question LQ Wiki: why can't I edit my user page?

LQ Wiki, why can't I edit my user page there?

I just created an account there, and one of the first things I thought about doing is to put something in my user page there.

Ps: a smaller question, just to "use" the thread. Shouldn't our wiki users be the same as our user here? I think many people would like this to be done automatically (including myself, did manually - luckily it was available).

What problem are you having while trying to edit a page?

I have no problem editting pages, I know how to use MediaWiki. But it seems that I cannot edit my user page. It seems I don't have the permissions to do it. And I see no reason for this, and I would like to write a few things there: http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/User:Dedec0

Just to answer your question, I made a small edit on http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/Swift. But I cannot make any changes (or make it exist, since it does not, right now) to my user page. The "Edit" link does not exist for it.

Is my problem clearer now?

I didn't know the LQ Wiki was a thing for us to use. We each have a profile. Start by clicking on the My LQ link at the top of any given LQ page you're on and (providing you are logged into LQ) it will bring you to your home area where there are links to edit your user profile and so forth. Wiki to me is less about personal and more just general information.

I notice you were able to add to the discussion for your user page. What do you see when you browse to http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/Useredec0 (there should be an edit box)?

Exactly! That's what I don't understand.

Although the "place" for the user page exists, I cannot edit or do anything with it (but even the discussion page is there!).

There is no edit link or edit box. The Use Page tab is red (which shows the page don't have any content - "not yet", I wished).

Edit: See the two screenshots.

The first picture shows my user page, after I login. There is not "Edit" link or place to do it.

The second picture show the discussion page is editable, although the first one is not.

The issue was related to a spam prevention measure put in place a while back. I've changed the setting and you should be able to create the page now.

By the way, there is a small bug in the URL parsing that could be corrected, although with a low priority. Check the posts above, it should not put a smiley there: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...6/#post5448071

There's a noparse tag for those cases, but I'd agree we should probably not parse for smilies in URL tags. We'll get that cleaned up in a future release. Thanks for the feedback.

Just an extra detail I noted now: I used the tag (or option, if they're not the same) in the first post. But the quoted and repeated URLs below it will not inherit the "fix".

Regards
