LQ search: "NO NAME" MEDIA interpreted as "NO NAME" OR MEDIA. [!]

Hi:

I will never, ever understand LQ search capability. I just searched with string "NO NAME" MEDIA, and the engine said: Seardch: Keyword(s): "NO NAME" OR MEDIA. But is not implicit in most implementations that, the lack of a connective implies conjunction and NOT disjunction?

Every time I use this feature I find myself writing to LQ. Do I do things so wrong?

I don't know about the search engine internals, but the search "no name" media returns nothing to me. On the other hand, looking for
Code:

site:www.linuxquestions.org "NO NAME" MEDIA
in Google returns some results.

A couple notes:

* As colucix mentioned, the search you gave as an example returns no results.
* The LQ search supports all standard BOOLEAN operators, so is fairly flexible.
* The default operator is AND
* Keep in mind that the next release of LQ will bring an entirely new and much improved search (based on the Open Source Sphinx project). The search at http://www.androidquestions.org/ can be used as a reference.

Hi:

Thanks for your post. I got over 50 results, headed by the message Search: Keyword(s): "NO NAME" OR MEDIA. So I tried putting an explicit AND between the two substrings: no use: it kept giving the same heading and the same number of results.

I remember you having said the thing is location-independent. But colucix post seems to contradict the statement. I hope the Sphinx engine will do better. Regards.
