LQ Privacy Policy?

I can't find it. Interested in both the forum and the blog privacy policies.

What, specifically are you looking for? Aside from the "LinuxQuestions.org will not release your email address or any other personal info to any third party for any reason without your consent" that you agree to when you register, we don't really have a privacy policy to speak of (mostly because, aside from your email address we do not collect any private data of any kind).

Suggestions from the EFF

Hi, Jeremy, I registered in 1995 and haven't spend much time here, so I can't recall that message.

I think LQ should have a written privacy policy which is easily found, say in Main Menu below "Site FAQ". Particularly because on advice on a moderator, I am thinking of experimenting with an LQ blog on privacy issues. It would be pretty hard for me to do that if I don't know what LQ's policy is! TIA.

Since my first blog would (I think) discuss the lessons of the HBGary Federal scandal, as I see them, which is apt to inflame GCHQ, it would be particularly welcome news if LQ would inform me if spookville demands to see anything it can't read and respond to in the blog like anyone else. Strictly speaking, what you just said implies that you would do that, and that you would go to court to fight for LQ blogger rights if you were told "you can't do that".

Two initiatives I like, from the American side of the pond:
Code:

http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2010/06/encrypt-web-https-everywhere-firefox-extension

So I'd also like to see some way to protect username/password combos when logging into LQ. (Not everyone enables Javascript in their browsers.)

What about what IP we logged in from? How long is that kept?

I'd be interested in knowing that, too.

It had better be at least two years, because if a user gets banned here, we want the moderation team to know if they're reregistering for new accounts within two years of the ban.

Two years is, IME, how long it takes to be sure that every problematic user has gotten the message.

Aren't most people using dynamic IPs which change every few weeks or so?

The ISP is in the IP, and that doesn't change unless the user changes ISPs. If a new account shows the same behavioral issues as a previously banned one, and is also posting from the same ISP and geographical region, then that account should not be entitled to as many chances as a typical new user.

We don't store IPs for logins (we do however for posts).
