LQ page always loading.

After I log in, I notice lately that firefox shows any LQ page I'm on as loading until I deliberately stop it from loading in the address bar. Perhaps this is a bug in firefox, but it's strange and a bit disconcerting that the page is never seen as completely loaded by the browser.

Also, I'm having an interesting time try to log it lately as well. The message I see says something about auto-logging me back in, but I can't seem to read the whole message and I haven't found a way to save it to read it after.

Not a firefox bug, its LQ related. I'm having the same issue with opera and firefox/iceweasel.

I have an extensive list that blocks adds/statistic/analytics related url's and LQ uses one or more of those. Most of the pages (the important stuff) is loaded, but most of the time it doesn't complete.

It is annoying but I guess Jeremy needs the income from the adds related links. I do wonder why LQ needs the other gimmicks/bling (example: google+... Really??).

It's related to The Questions Network SSO. Are you actually having an issue logging in, or is the login message just disappearing too quickly for you to read it?

I'm not able to reproduce this issue. Do you know what URL(s) is failing to load completely?

Some people find the +1's useful if the usage is any indication. The code for that is very light and is loaded async so it should have zero performance impact. It's also quite easy to block (and will have no implications on LQ functionality) if it's not something you want to see.

Nope. I have quite a few url's that I block (hosts file). I'm not even sure if I have to look for add or analytics related url's. The adds seem to be random here at LQ, which makes it even harder. LQ loads normal if I comment out the blocked url's in my hosts file.

You should know which adds are shown here at LQ and could compare those with this list: Ad blocking - Plaintext list (other formats: Ad blocking - Home)

In case you might wonder: Except for one other exception (BoingBoing, once every 2 or so days), LQ is the only site that shows this behaviour on every visit. And I visit dozens of different sites daily.

With the number of posts you have, you should see zero ads. Is this not the case?

I've never seen any actual adds in all the years I've been here (adblockplus + previous referred to list).

Sporadically I do see an "empty" block on the right side (Main Menu / My LQ / etc), which I thought to be add related.

Thanks for replying so quickly. I mistyped there: s/log it/log out/. It's when I go to log out. I get a message across the top of the page telling me something to the affect of auto logging me back in. It disappears too fast for me to catch it. I've never done it before, but I'll figure out how to record my screen so I can read the whole message. I've looked through my settings and can't find anything that seems to fit auto log in. If it's not a setting and not LQ, I'd better do some forensics on my system.

p.s.
Thanks for providing LQ. This really is a wonderful place.

There's a known bug where you may have to log out twice or you'll be immediately logged back in on the first page load. We plan to address it in a future code update, but manually deleting all LQ-related cookies will always log you out.
