LQ marks read threads unread upon closing browser

I've been noticing some strange behavior from LQ lately...

I'll be reading some threads in a forum, and when I go back to the thread list in the forum and refresh the page, it marks the threads as read, just as they're supposed to.

However, if I close Firefox, open it again, and come back to the same forum(s), all those threads are marked unread again, even if there aren't really any new posts.

I've tried disabling clearing history on exit, but that doesn't help. I've also got LQ cookies enabled (conditionally; i.e. only LQ's cookies, along with a few other sites, not all cookies are accepted). Is there anything I need to do to correct this behavior? Is anyone else experiencing this problem? It is mildly annoying...

...or else leave a note in "LQ suggestions and feedback". If it's ubiquitous, Jeremy is the person to handle it.

I can say that this doesn't happen to me, unless I stay logged in and have the thread lists open on the page. When I close out of LQ (without logging off) and then come back, even after the timeout period, only threads that I have read and haven't had new posts to them show as read.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Glad to see that I'm not the only one having this problem.

Is anyone here using a browser other than Firefox? If not, then it might be browser-specific...I'll try re-installing Midori and testing it from there.

Hi,

I'm running opera, both at work (on windows) and at home (on linux).

I'm posting from Midori, but it's practically impossible for me to see what I'm typing in the editor field! I have to look really close. (thanks a lot Midori for not adhering to my GTK theme )

I can't really test for the problem yet, thought, because it hasn't marked any threads as having unread posts yet.

I'll wait until there comes a new post, then I'll see if things are different here.

Well, I guess that settles it. It's a cross-browser problem. I get the same thing with Midori, too

Why don't you enable all cookies for a short period of testing, just to be on the secure side...

Well, I tried enabling all cookies, then viewing some threads and restarting the browser. No dice.

I also tried logging out, restarting the browser, then logging back in, and it marked all forums/threads as read...

So I'm guessing this has something to do with cookies?

Not really. I made the above suggestion to make sure, that your build of browser doesn't have a cookie-disorder . But that seems not to be the case. Freshly out of ideas, sorry.

Do you have Midori setup to remove cookies when you close the browser? That would cause the behavior you're seeing.

Actually, I've uninstalled Midori again, but I'll re-install it and try with cookie clearing disabled (if that's not the default) if you want...
