LQ is unusably slow!
Starting from around yesterday evening (after 20:00 eastern time) LQ became so slow I can't use it whatsoever, it was a huge struggle just to get to the "Post New Thread" page. Any other site works as fast as ever.
When I load a page, it goes very slowly, sometimes loading by parts, it either takes a few minutes to load or it never does. When I try in Konqueror, the status bar shows that the network speed is less than 100 bytes (not kilobytes or megabytes) per second. |
Seems fine to me. Can you post up some ping tests, traceroute etc to assist with trouble-shooting?

Working fine here....
There are occassional slowdowns, but I haven't seen any significant issues in many weeks. |
I did this:
Code:
ping www.linuxquestions.org |
Those ping times are not bad at all.
If you have IPv6 enabled in your system, when your ISP doesn't properly support it, it WILL slow you down. You might try disabling it. |
But the pages load so slow that they practically don't load at all.
The page just gets partially loaded, and seems to get "stuck". Sometimes they just sit there, after a few parts have loaded, for hours, with no appearant progress. I don't know if I have IPv6 enabled. All other sites load about the same, and download speeds are as fast as ever. And this problem just suddenly started yesterday evening. |
Did you have an update? I've seen a few complaints (no explanation though) about a recent Firefox update which has people complaining. But the fact that it seems to be affecting you would suggest it's not on the server end.
In Firefox, go to about:config and type in "ipv6" (without the quotes). You should see 2 entries, one of which will be "network.dns.disableIPv6". Double click that and change "False" to "True". Restart Firefox and see if the problem is still there. |
That didn't help.
Note that I mostly use Konqueror and Chromium. |
Have you checked your router and also done a traceroute www.linuxquestions.org to see if you can find a problem between you and here?
Here's mine, for reference: Code:
~$ traceroute www.linuxquestions.org |
Code:
$ traceroute www.linuxquestions.org |
Yours looks better than mine!

I've had problems in the past and on occasion clearing the cache has helped and cookies has helped.

You are using linuxquestions directly from www.linuxquestions.org, aren't you?
From an RSS feed, I notice that the process of getting from a link in a feed (via feedproxy) is tragically slow (sometimes ~a few seconds, sometimes into the hours range), but direct use of www.linuxquestions.org is perfectly normal. Your DNS lookup for linuxquestions is normal, isn't it? Could you post the output from 'dig www.linuxquestions.org', please? |

It seems to have fixed itself now.
The problem probably was neither at my end nor at LQ. |
