LQ doesn't load anymore, I am posting through CGI proxy
If I type in linuxquestions.org in the browser, it just says connecting and then it fails with "The connection has timed out". It seems that the site is up, as I am able to view the site and post from a CGI proxy. Is my IP banned or something ? I guess I could reset the router ?

Tried resetting router and it doesn't help. I didn't change any configuration for anything any time recently, so I doubt it is on my side. |

Code:
bash-4.2$ tracepath linuxquestions.org/80 |
Does the same thing happen when you use www.linuxquestions.org (linuxquestions.org redirects to it)?
|
I'm not seeing any traces from around the world entering into po1. or po2.fcr02.sr04.dal01.networklayer.com and stalling after it, and LQ is one hop behind po1. or po2. IIRC so no idea what's going on...

Code:
bash-4.2$ tracepath www.linuxquestions.org/80 I don't think it is the DNS, because I have tried the IP address of LQ and it doesn't work. EDIT: Running 'whois linuxquestions, org' works fine. Nothing else works tho. |
Using the official URL does seem to solve your problem. It would be nice to know what goes wrong with the URL that's been redirected.
I do notice this in the output posted (post #8): Code:
* About to connect() to www.linuxquestions.org port 80 (#0) Code:
* About to connect() to linuxquestions.org port 80 (#0) |

I guess I will try to mess with the DNS settings on the router. However, all other sites are working just fine. EDIT: Ok, I disabled opendns ... and it still doesn't work :( I think it just may be a local (country) network issue. I guess I'll wait till tomorrow and see what happens. Maybe I'll call the ISP then. |
We recently adjusted some of our filters due to a spam attack and it looks like you may have been inadvertently impacted. You should be all set now. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Do same for me, please, jeremy! I know i posted something(yugioh) that might be result of this but come-on really? It's freeware..thanks. Take IP from there since i'm using proxy atm.
|
Arcane, all set.
--jeremy |
Ok, it works now, thanks. It seems to have blocked IPs in Eastern Europe ... indeed of place of spam.

Phew! Thanks, jeremy! I also though i got banned or something but seriously what for then? Usually there is warning before ban or explanation provided why banned..oh well accidents happen to everyone. No harm done. :)

@all: please stop this whole ban notion paranoia thing.
At LQ banning an account is a last resort option. A member has to be warned first and contacted first to try and patch things up. Besides that, for a regular account to get banned (not talking advertising, etc, etc) a procedure must be followed which starts with contacting that member to first try and gauge / reason / fix things. Eventually, when nothing can be mended, LQ may ban a member by (sometimes temporarily) blocking the account. Yes, you read that right: not the IP address but the account. And once an account is locked a note is displayed. That note may even include an invitation to contact me, another moderator or Jeremy because a ban does not automagically mean that member won't be welcome back. To recap: 0) We don't like banning LQ members. Really. We'd rather keep 'em. 1) A LQ member will know when they've crossed the line. 2) (rare cases aside) there can be no ban without prior warning. 3) When an account gets locked that member will know that will be the case well in advance. I hope this insight allays any concerns you might have. Should you wish to know more don't hesitate to contact me or any moderator by email. Now please go back to whatever it is you were doing and have fun. |

I have the same problem for few days(and now, used web-tunnel service to report here). Sitting behind corporative proxy, so firefox returns me "(110) Connection timed out".
Since I have not direct access to Proxy station, I cannot report here traceroute and ping results. http://www.whatsmyip.org/ reports me is 178 dot 94 dot 147 dot 229 (yes, I am in Eastern Europe) |
FeyFre, you should be all set. We apologize for the inconvenience.

I cannot reach LQ from Poznan, Poland.
Proxying works well, but it is not a solution . . . |
Please send me your IP address/netblock offline and we'll take a look.

It works - thanks !

I have registered and logged in via anonymouse.org.
Via normal browsing from 188.27.16.41 the site doesn't works! When I search via google, a lot of linuxquestions.org results are shown, it's annoying that the site doesn't load! Why am I blocked????? |
Problem with Eastern Europe has not been completely solved yet?
I can't access 75.126.162.205 from a dozen hosts on different subnets and on two different providers. Any chance of lifting all the filters for eastern europe? Or are the filters going to be lifted only upon request and only for individual IPs/subnets? |
Not solved
Although this thread is marked as solved, it isn't...
Accessing this site worked for several days, now it's still blocked. Dear admins, please understand, blocking half of the world isn't a solution to kick several spammers. There are intelligent anti-spam solutions instead of brute blocking. Since my IP is dynamic, next week I'll be blocked again if you unblock only a single IP address. BTW I'm posting again via a proxy... |
We've unblocked many subnets, but some do remain blocked. If you send us the IP or netblock we'll evaluate each one individually and make a decision from there.
