LQ doesn't load anymore, I am posting through CGI proxy

If I type in linuxquestions.org in the browser, it just says connecting and then it fails with "The connection has timed out". It seems that the site is up, as I am able to view the site and post from a CGI proxy. Is my IP banned or something ? I guess I could reset the router ?

Mine works fine, try a different browser and see what happens.

The beginning of this sentence indicates you are not really sure about that. Of course it is up, you just posted on it.

Is this paranoia or something?

You haven't actually tried to solve this on your own yet? Try a few different things and then if it doesn't work as it should ask for help.

Tried various browsers on multiple computers and OSs and it doesn't help.
Tried resetting router and it doesn't help.

I didn't change any configuration for anything any time recently, so I doubt it is on my side.

Give us a 'tcptraceroute www.linuxquestions.org 80' and a 'curl -v http://www.linuxquestions.org/'?

Note that if 'linuxquestionsorg' shows up as 'linuxquestions.org', it's actually just the CGI changing everything It is supposed to be LQ. This does NOT affect the traceroute because it was run in a terminal not going through the proxy !

Does the same thing happen when you use www.linuxquestions.org (linuxquestions.org redirects to it)?

I'm not seeing any traces from around the world entering into po1. or po2.fcr02.sr04.dal01.networklayer.com and stalling after it, and LQ is one hop behind po1. or po2. IIRC so no idea what's going on...

So you mean I should post the output of it running through the proxy ? Ok:

I don't know what networklayer has to do with this, but it might be something. One thing I should mention is that I use opendns as my DNS. Should I change it ?

I don't think it is the DNS, because I have tried the IP address of LQ and it doesn't work.

EDIT: Running 'whois linuxquestions,org' works fine. Nothing else works tho.

Using the official URL does seem to solve your problem. It would be nice to know what goes wrong with the URL that's been redirected.

I do notice this in the output posted (post #8):
Code:
* About to connect() to www.linuxquestions.org port 80 (#0)
*   Trying 91.105.232.26...
* Connected to www.linuxquestions.org (91.105.232.26) port 80 (#0)
That's not LQ's IP address, 75.126.162.205 is. This is shown in the output posted in post #5 (but no connection is made):
Code:
* About to connect() to linuxquestions.org port 80 (#0)
*   Trying 75.126.162.205...
* Connection timed out
I'm no expert, but it looks like a routing problem. DNS comes to mind (I do believe the mentioned proxy doesn't work when using the command line).

The 91.105.232.26 is going through the proxy, 75.126.162.205 is the real LQ address, however, it doesn't work either. Doesn't that rule out a DNS issue ?

I guess I will try to mess with the DNS settings on the router. However, all other sites are working just fine.

EDIT: Ok, I disabled opendns ... and it still doesn't work

I think it just may be a local (country) network issue. I guess I'll wait till tomorrow and see what happens. Maybe I'll call the ISP then.

Ok, it works now, thanks. It seems to have blocked IPs in Eastern Europe ... indeed of place of spam.

No, actually I was right, and I figured it would be a mistake not something personal. If it were personal my account would have been banned.
