LQ cookie not used this time???

Well, I opened up Mozilla and dropped down the URL list and selected www.linuxquestions.org like I usually do. The page opens and there were ads all over the place. Hmmm... What's up with that? Then I noticed that I wasn't logged in. Usually when I get here I am automatically logged in. So, I go to Edit/Preferences and my LQ cookies are still in place.

I'm just curious why the cookie didn't log me in this time? Does it change and have to be refreshed occasionally?

It may just have expired. Cookies usually expire (there is an expiration time). Maybe your browser cookies were cleared automatically: they sometimes happen.

Well, there are only 2 ads - I'm not sure that can be classified as "all over the place". As for the cookie problem, it's likely that it was removed somehow. If you login again is the cookie created?

hehe... Well, just seeing one big ad in the middle of the session prompted that comment. Sorry about that. I didn't mean for it to be a serious comment.

I have Mozilla set to ask me before storing any cookies. Then I just accept cookies that I think I need, such as cookies from LQ and cookies from my bank, etc. I accepted the LQ cookies quite a while ago and haven't cleared cookies in a long time. So, every time I surf here, it just says Welcome Back itsjustme. I don't have to re-enter my userid and password.

Anyway, so I don't know what was up with that yesterday. I had to login and then it welcomed me back. I didn't get another cookie request dialogue. So, it's not like I got a new cookie. I didn't delete any cookies.

I was just looking at the mozilla preferences and I have 5 LQ cookies:

sessionhash ----- expires at end of session
bbtthreadview -- expires at end of session
bblastvisit -------- expires Saturday, June 25, 2005
bbuserid ---------- expires Wednesday, July 20, 2005
bbpassword ----- expires Wednesday, July 20, 2005

But, it seems odd that the userid and password cookies would expire on Thursday, 18 Nov 04, and then be reset to expire on 20 Jul 05.

I'll just chalk it up to weird and if it happens again I'll check the cookie info before I re-login.

EDIT: OOPS, scratch the cookie info above. It's Friday. That's info on my laptop. The problem I had was on my home PC. (What a goof.)
I'll check the cookie info there when I get home.
