LQ Contest, sponsored by Linux+ Magazine
I'm happy to announce that Linux+ Magazine would like to give 3 lucky LQ members a subscription. To be eligible, all you need to do is post 3 times between now and June 22nd. After that date we'll randomly select 3 members from all who have meet the eligibility requirements. Note that only posts made in a forum that increments your "Posts" will count toward the 3 needed for this contest. Thanks, and good luck.
Interesting, but what kind of subscription .... there are two kinds:
Quote:
Print Subscription
* you get 4 issues of Linux+ DVD magazine straight to your place
* you save $20
* you do not miss any issue
Pricing: one-year USD 39.99 / Euro 29.99
Electronic subscription
* you get 4 issues in .pdf format straight to your e-mail box every three months
* you do not miss any issue
* electronic subscription does not include the covermount DVDs attached to hard copies
What is meant by this? I've used these forums a few times but don't understand what is being referred to? Does this mean just post in 3 different forums, or are there specific forums being referred to?

You see, on the left to every post you make, there is a counter that says how many posts you made since you had that username. I determines when you get "newbie" "member" status, among other things. There is a rule that the counter doesn't increase when you post in forums like general.
So, the way I read it, everybody who posts 3 questions or everybody who helps 3 people by answering a question for them on LQ is in the competition. They don't even have to read this thread for it!
Given how active these forums are, I guess I have better luck buying a lotto biljet and getting a subscription from the profits of that.

Please note that after the 3 random winners are selected I will be manually verifying that they have at least 3 substantive posts. If you simply post 3 "Me too" type posts, you will not be eligible. The goal of this contest was not to induce spurious posts, but to reward well deserving members who participate here at LQ. If you have any questions, let me know. Also, look for some additional giveaways here at LQ in the near future.
Is this contest win valid anywhere, or only US, or Europe, or how?
and on a side note, while we're at forums counting, if this forum adds to the count, imo it should be handled like the general forum, w/o a count
Well, I can think of one place where posts would easily be good ones, but I don't know how to find that area.
I get an email once in a while about unanswered posts with a link to a list of them.
How can I get there without waiting for an email with the link? Surely there is a way to navigate there but I don't see it. (It doesn't help that the default color scheme is hard on my eyes.)
edit: Just found it. It's called zero reply threads under quick links.

Thanks. I guess I'd better read the FAQ and learn about the board.
