I see nothing wrong with multiple choice. It's not as if we are writing serious, erudite reviews. I view it as a bit of end-of-the-year fluff that's really just for fun.
How many don't vote here and there because they can't pick more than one "favorite," what problems would this cause?
Hi...
In cases like that, I choose the most favorite. I had to make that decision in this year's "Privacy Solution of the Year" poll. I wonder how much it would affect the results if the option to choose more than one entry was added?
@Jeremy: Thank you for the time and effort putting all of this together for us.
Having to pick "one" tends to make you think harder about which is your favourite, but may leave some applications under-represented. For example, if "Desktop distribution of the year" was listed as Debian based, Suse based, Fedora based, Arch based, Gentoo based ...
As it is, the Debian based distribution votes are split between Debian, Ubuntu, Mint, Elementary, Deepin, Zorin ...
On the other hand, if I want to buy an ice cream, there are many flavours that I like, but the difficult choice has to be made.
That's why some people "invented" polls that use "order from most favorite to least favorite", to have the advantages of both single-choice and multiple choice polls.
Although in this context, it would make sense to be able to do it like this:
Favorite: Foo
2nd Favorite: Bar
3rd Favorite: none
...
Least Favorite: Baz
In case Foo and Bar are both your favorite choices, while you don't like Baz for whatever reason, and all other choices you have no opinion about, so ordering them would be pointless.
