35 $1 bill it is!

Hi all.
It's cool having this members area. The fee is ok, and the proposed extra features are pretty kewl.
Hey jeremy, if you need some hardware donations; I don't know what kind of computer you are upgrading the site to but, I've got some extra hardware that you can have if you need it. Some intel processors, big and fast hardrives, and some video cards. Just in case you know...
Anyway, lets see what more people think about this whole thing,

Sounds good.........

Perhaps all contributors could be called "senior members" or something to that effect. Contributing member might in fact cause a us and them type thing.

Great idea, Jeremy, and the price is right. Count me in.

mydini 04-01-2002 02:28 PM

I agree with all, my only hassle would be I am in New Zzealand....and the dollar here is sad...sad..sad compared to the US. So it would depend on the price. However, saying that I am there to help in anyway

cman2k 04-01-2002 02:31 PM

well.. (Prepare yourselves for some Texas venacular!)

i ain't too sure 'bout all that name/perks malarky!

i'd send some greenbacks to contribute but anything else? nah.. ah don't need that.

is there a pint in it for me?

I would love to help

I would love to help but i run a site myself http://www.postdeals.net and first few months were great making good money now it seems either those banner people don't correctly recognize the business i give or they jus dont want to pay. I get more hits and clicks now then few months ago but my payments went from $60-100 a month to like $15-20max a month which is hardly enough money to keep the site going. I wish i can help but with college loans and bills to pay to keep the site up i can't really donate anything now.

I AM WILLING TO HELP YOUR SITE BY PROMOTING IT, I MOVED TO LINUX FEW MONTHS AGO AND THIS SITE HAS HELPED ME A LOT (also people on irc have been helpful too).

TELL ME WHAT I CAN DO TO HELP.

Thanks
Purvin

I like it!

I never joined the Mandrake Club, because I didn't think (after browsing the forums) that I would get anything like the help I get here.

I personally don't feel the need for a "Contributing Member" recognition being posted publicly. Just send me a nice "warm and fuzzy" thank you card. :)

I think the number of posts shown beneath a user's name is enough of an indicator about who is truly a contributing member.

Monetarily contributing people might appreciate receiving tips on job leads (I know I would), since you pointed out that these are tough economic times. The personal messaging that you mentioned might help here.

But, that's just one idea. Thanks for all your hard work to date, Jeremy!

yeah

yeah i
would say do it!

Sounds Good

I'm new to the forum, but intend to spend a lot of time learing Linux inside out. I won't become a contributing member right away, but wouldn't mind the $35 if this forum proves as useful as I believe it will. I'd say go for it.

Half_Elf 04-01-2002 04:40 PM

Well err... I want to help you but in my money (canadian dollar) 35 us dollar is something like 60$. Can't I send you a green (twenty) just as a donation? :)

jeremy 04-01-2002 04:54 PM

Ofcourse we will still be accepting donations. ;)

coolguy18087 04-01-2002 05:32 PM

I agree

I think this forum rocks. I wouldn't mind paying the $35 for a year to keep this great service running. However there were two things I would like to suggest.

One, let the members decide how much each want to pay, let $35 be the preferred amount. That way you can get more membership. I dont think it would be neccessary to create different features for different classes of memberships.

Secondly, I really liked one nice feature in the Mandrake User Club. They had a AIM icon under a person's profile. I think it would be a great addition here too. Any thoughts

I'm in, too. I've gotten $35 worth of advice here, easily. And I like warm, fuzzy feelings.: Pengy:

Contributions

I agree with coolguy. Some members may be unemployed, students or in a country with an outrageous exchange rate. Ask for $35 and let everyone know they can subscribe for whatever they can afford.

OR

Get real sneaky about it and get some subscribers together that are students and have them ask the "Bill & Melinda Gates" foundation for a donation for their "school" computer equipment.

:D

This is by far the best Linux forum out there. Leaps and bounds above the rest. I would have no problem contributing to it. Count me in!!!!!!!!
