LinuxQuestions forum unaccessible here for many days using Firefox (solved)

For many days, I am not able to enter this forum anymore using firefox.

To tell the truth, I can open the front page of the forums, and most times I can open subcategories as well. But each time I try to open a thread, it shows an error like this one:

Code:
400 Bad Request
---------------
 nginx/0.7.17
Because of this, I can't even answer on the forums, and I can't open the threads most times.

The strange things is that, from time to time, it will leave me open a random thread. But most of the times it will just fail. However, Opera works as far as I can tell (and I am using it right now to post this).

It might or might not be related, but firefox never rendered this site correctly, graphic elements are never shown, I don't know what the reason might be. I see the alt text instead. This has always happened for me since I started using firefox. Konqueror and opera both show the graphics ok. Buttons, logos, even the edit box buttons... all of them are shown as text links instead when I am in firefox. (no, graphics are not disabled, the rest of sites work ok).

The problem seems to be firefox related, but the strange thing is that firefox doesn't have any problem with any other site, and all is rendered ok.

Using firefox 3.0.1 on Gentoo x86_64 (amd64). I don't know which other piece of information could I provide that could help to diagnose the problem. I've searched for many days, but found nothing related. I don't know if anyone else is having this problem and have absolutely no clue where to start troubleshooting this.

Thanks for reading and for any tip. Cheers.

I use FF exclusively and do not have any problem at all. I'll take a look in the logs to see if I can find any additional information. Is anyone else having an issue with Firefox?

I have been using it for quite some time now (formerly I used konqueror) and it always worked ok. This problem started only a few days ago, and only in this site.

I updated firefox to 3.0.1 a couple of weeks ago maybe. Previously I was using 3.0, I have been thinking if that might have something to do with the issue, but I can't really be sure about that.

Hi, Jeremy~

Absolutely not. I also use Firefox exclusively, and have for a few years, now. I also upgraded to 3.0 when RC1 was released... still no problems. Of course, I couldn't get anything to work right with Gentoo.

Cheers

Knowing at least what "Error 400" means on this context would be enough to put me on the right track.

I know that this kind of error is related to misscontructed urls or malformed http data streams, not sure, and usually it's just due to something buggy on either the client and/or the server. I highly doubt that Gentoo has any place at all in this equation, overall since I am using stable settings (all the stable that firefox 3.x can get, that is).

I would be interested in knowing what versions (exactly) of firefox and xulrunner are people using. I will try to revert to a previous 3.x release, and will investigate on xulrunner as well. If I find something conclusive I will let you know. In the while, I watch this thread.

Thanks everyone

Update: previous 3.x versions do not make a difference. I am going to do some cleaning. Maybe my firefox configuration is rotten or something, though I really don't use much plugins nor addons at all.

FIX:
  • Deleting sessionstore.* on my profile directory fixed the 400 issue.
  • Deleting prefs.js on my profile directory fixed the images not showing here and in google images.

There you are, in case someone else is having fun with firefox updates.

Thanks everyone for reading and trying to help me. Case closed, happily

Cheers.

I am having the same problem with Firefox 3.0.3 in Slackware. Yesterday
there was no problem. This morning I woke up and can't reach pages with
FF, getting the same error message as the OP.

I went back to FF-3.0.1, and FF-3.0.2, with the same problem.

I have no problem with Opera, either. Also, I have no problem with any
other site with FF.

Edit: I did not even pay attention to the green text in post #5
when reading this thread. Now I have done the same:
Code:
mingdao@silas:~$ rm .mozilla/firefox/fwx9ju3e.default/sessionstore.*
and it's working. Not too happy that I lost my saved tabs with that move,
and I'd like to solve the problem rather than just deleting files.

And for anyone else reading this thread, DO NOT:
Code:
cp .mozilla/firefox/fwx9ju3e.default/sessionstore.js .mozilla/firefox/fwx9ju3e.default/sessionstore.js.saved
because once you restart FF, then close it, those
files will also be gone.

This isn't a true fix, more like the boy putting
his finger in the dyke.

Question Just a question~

Do y'all have third-party extensions installed in FF?

I've been using FF 3.0.3 for a few days now, and still no problems. It even saved my LQ login, along with everything else, during the upgrade.

FWIW, I have no extensions installed.

Cheers

I've been having this issue for ages - try removing (all, in my case) linuxquestions cookies.
I have had to do this a couple of times.

Hey syg00,

Do you think this issue could be these files getting
too large? If so, why does it only happen with LQ
pages, and no others; and only with FF.

In my case 'only with FF' could be cause I only use
FF, and don't have such files in other browsers.

I doubt size is an issue. Seems to be F/F specific - even under Windoze. And specific to LQ.
It was so bad for me, I even had to use Epiphany to log a incident with jeremy ...

No trouble here: FF-3.?.? on XP and Ubuntu, 2.0.0.17 on Slack, Iceweasel <whatever> on Debian.

I've made a couple changes on our end, in an attempt to do some debugging. Has it happened to anyone in the last 12 hours?

I have asked about this exact issue on these boards before, and I still have this problem intermittently. When it happens, I use Konqueror.
