Question Is there a Linux Newbie FAQ?

I found the site FAQ, but is there a FAQ for Linux Newbies? I've just install RedHat and have some general questions, like where do my programs live? Is there a directory comparable to Windows' 'program files' where I should install new programs?

Also. what's the diff between Gnome and KDE? I have Gnome.

Google up a copy of Newbie's Linux Manual. It taught me a lot when I first make the change to Linux.
