An IRC channel would circumvent one major feature of LQ: the ability to search for solutions to a problem. If you open a thread for your problem anyone out there that has the same problem can find it (and possible solutions) with a simple web search. You can't do that with IRC.
I know that but it would be fun to have live interactive communications weather it's a technical issue or to pass time communicating with familiar members.
While communication about trivial things with familiar members would be fine (and can easily be done without an official LQ channel) I would bet that sooner or later technical issues of any kind would be asked and answered. That would contradict the purpose of LQ, I would think.
