"Humor" forum?

I was advised to post here for a suggestion I have.

I know this is an *almost* purely technical site, and is absolutely great for information. << wipes brown stuff from tip of nose >>

I like to meander in the "Non-*nix General" forum, because of all the different subjects that are covered; science, humor, "my daily life", now good or bad OS's are, etc. But sometimes that forum can get a little heavy on the negatives, and the attitudes.

Anyway, I think it might be an upper to add a humor forum, maybe as a sub-forum to the General section. Something to show the lighter side of those in our community.

Maybe, but wouldn't it just get filled with tired old anti-Microsoft jokes and helpdesk transcripts? Have to say i've never been that impressed with the average "funny" post here...

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ighlight=funny

but then maybe that in itself is because things stay roughly on topic. i've never posted links to anything at a site like b3ta.com or qwantz.com despite going there just as often as here...

so in summary... http://icanhascheezburger.files.word...moderator1.jpg ;)

Certainly not, not my call by any means... and it was just a convenient topical lolcatz picture i found...

Personally i'm not really that convinced, there would be a logic in then having a politics forum and a reglion forum too, and those would definitely be bad ideas. There would be a logic in an "off topic" forum which would provide a separation between that sort of thing and windows questions and other actual IT questions though. Personally i'm more in favour of keeping things as on topic as possible though.

So that's what the LQ moderators look like! ;)

(I was thinking the OP's idea might be good. But then I haven't been following the humor on LQ.)

That is one funny picture.

And I agree, those would be very bad ideas. However, we could have the same rules as a bar, where "politics and religion are taboo, but sex and humor are always open for discussion." ;)

Cheers

I understand that statement. What do you consider on-topic? Does the fact that this is primarily a Linux forum mean that most non-Linux threads are off-topic? In that logic, do you feel that the Non-*nix General forum is inappropriate to the site?

I agree, too, about religion and politics. Too many hurt feelings in those subject areas.

But since I think this board is visited by minors, I don't think we should allow crude or sexual humor. Unfortunately, those do seem to be the best jokes! ;) Gee, I hope I'm not speaking against myself, here!

Perhaps we both are.

But if politics, religion, & sex are banned, what's left to joke about? :D

Thanks for the feedback. We have no plans to add a humor subforum at this time.
