LQ doesn't currenty allow for users to upload pictures or files. Allowing people to post pictures would require extra server bandwidth, server space, resources, etc... Also we have users who are using dial-up connections which would be slow for them and users who use text based browsers.

Just to expand on that...

If you have a picture you want to accompany with a post, set up a web server to display it and provide a link to it in your post.

There are a number of free web hosting companies (like tripod) that will give you some storage to display a personal webpage. You can use a service like that to provide your image.

Or you could just make a text diagram like:
Code:
               {Internet}
                    |
                [ROUTER]-----[DMZ SWITCH]---<SQL SERVER>-
                    |              |     \
[JETDIRECT]---[LAN SWITCH]   <WEB SERVER> \
                /   |   \                  <MAIL SERVER>
             (PC1)(PC2) [HUB]
                       /  |  \
                   (PC3)(PC4)(PC5)

Key:
{}=Cloud
[]=Network Device
<>=Server
()=PC

Just my 2 cents -- While I might be inclined to agree that in certain cases the ability to attach a file would be both helpful and advantageous, at the same time, it could really be a Pandora's box -- suppose that through either an innocent mistake or deliberate malice someone attached a file that contained a virus/trojan/spyware, or a wildly inappropriate .jpg, etc. In addition to the issues darin3200 identified, the ability to attach a file to a thread is not something that many people either need or want, and thus it just wouldn't have a favorable cost/benefit ratio. If a picture is needed, as david_ross suggested a simple diagram should suffice. Again, this is strictly my personal opinion. -- J.W.
