This is an odd question, probably, but I've seen a few other forums that look a lot like LinuxQuestions.org. How is it implemented? Is this a wiki? Is there anything more to it than that? Like, what kind of wiki?
I believe LQ uses vBulletin, one of the more popular forum software projects out there. So yes, you'll find many other boards that have a similar look & feel. The differences will mostly be in which features and customizations the individual board operators have decided to implement.
BB software is mostly centered around tree-based structures of forums, subforums, and individual threads, with each user tacking new posts onto what's come before. Wiki software, OTOH, is generally quite different, as it's more geared around individual pages as the base unit of operation, with multiple users having the ability to edit the same data fields in a collaborative fashion.
Moved: This thread is more suitable in LQ Suggestions and Feedback and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.
How many website developers does LQ have, and what website development tools are they using....or are they using vbulletin only? There also is a wiki on LQ, so are they using a different Linux tool for that part of LQ?
We have 1 full timer (fella by the name of Jeremy) and one nearly full-timer (David_Ross). This is a version of vBulletin which has been modified to make it work the way we want it to. The wiki software is probably Mediawiki (though I may be wrong).
Thank you for asking this. I've been trying to figure out what CMS or BBS type system to use, and this gave me a few more ideas. Currently I'm using a very basic wordpress install.
