Hi,
I would like to know when i will become a senior member in LQ.
What should I do?

You become a senior member when you reach 1000 posts. Don't spam to reach that milestone. Also, this thread has nothing to do with Linux software and all questions relating to the forums belong in Website Suggestions & Feedback.

In my opinion, being just a member is lots fun than being a senior member or guru, you get to make mistakes and learn. if you become a SM, newbies and members will look up to you and always value your opinion more than that of others (newbie, members), so there is pressure on you to be always (or most of the time) right. Also you don't feel like asking newbish questions anymore (may hurt your pride!).

I am pretty content on being a member and will wait my time, for anything that should come along. That said, i am in no hurry to knock down brick buildings in order to be a Senior Member. :D

Rankings mean nothing - what counts is the quality of the content of posts.
I wouldn't value anybodys posts any more just because they stepped up a ranking.
If you are helpful you will be appreciated.

In fact I've suggested rankings should be removed altogether - not a popular suggestion.

Just reminds me that i spend far too much time skiving at work on this site....

I must say though, since crap like spamming and bumping isn't tolerated here (by hard working mods) the quantity of posts does seem a good reflection on peoples contribution to the LQ community, and to a lesser extent, their knowledge of various subjects.

I find that people with higher post counts have better quality questions and answers (maybe because they've been around the block for a while)

I couldn't possibly comment, i haven't seen all your posts, and in reality, my opnion doesn't count for anything, especially in obtaining senior member status.

There are stickies and things on how to post decent questions, and you should always do your best to find your own answers and research before asking someone else. Be polite and courtious, and as precise with your information as possible.

If your questions follow the above then i'd say it's all good :)

on my opinion people thrive for higher ranks so that someday they'll be able to look back at their work and be proud of themselves. it's not a bad idea though. the point is they or i mean, we, learn more the more we stay longer here at lq.

hey not bad though. it's quite good too for newbies like me. hehe :)

Edit: wait don't think i thrive for higher ranks too. i stay here to learn more that's all. know just what the heck the geeks do.. and be like them bwahaha. joke ;)

But my opinion is, as a newbie, LQ helped me alot in so many things. Amost all my concernsgot answered.

As far as prozac's comments about Senior Members or Guru's always being right: I disagree. Everyone can make mistakes. We're here because we do the best we can to help others in the community. The value of the quarter-million members here at LQ.org is that any question can get a diverse range of answers, and most likely the UNIX tradition will prevail with 3 right ways to do something. :)

I've just tried to do what I can in contributing to the community: doing my part to make Linux better.

As has been said, we tend not to believe that post count counts for much here. The FAQ has details of when your title changes - as in how many posts you have to make. The best thing to do is to ask good, detailed, clear questions and provide good, detailed, clear answers. Most people remember a good member far more than one with a huge post count.

To be honest, most of the members I have noticed (in a good way ;)) don't have a particularly high post count.

Really all the post count shows is how long you've been around and how little of a social life you have. (At least in my case... ;) )
