Every Page of LQ throws a JS error.

Starting today (I think), every page of LQ that I go to throws a javascript error in my Internet Explorer 6. (Those of you who are using IE and aren't getting errors, don't forget to turn on error messages in the settings.)

Figures the IE client would complain which is typical. AFAIK my IE 6 at work is still fully functional on the site so I'd just probably prompt members to turn error messaging back off, cause well, that's IE really to tell you since its the most non-standard browser out there.

If you provide actual error messages though, I'm sure Jeremy might look into it further.. and if you had error checking before, I don't think Jeremy warned us of any code changing so it could just be your browser.

although, btw, telling LQ members to turn off javascript errors would be unwise on a linux site. a lot of LQ users are webmasters.

No need to turn off any error messages, if something is really broken I'll fix it. That being said I have not made a js change in a *long* time. Are you still getting an error? If so can you post it? Thanks.

Hi...

You know what? One can never trust either Windows or Internet Explorer...These 2 spit errors which most of the times aren't even be closely related to what may actually be wrong with the system.

I'll give 2 example for that...

1. I am working on MS-Word 2000. Suddenly, out of nowhere, I get an error message

"Explorer has performed an illegal operation and will be closed down"

I "End Tasks!" and reboot. Again start working on MS-word, again same error!...I just happened to open the directory which had the file I was working with in MS-Word, and I saw 20 odd .tmp lock files. They were crashing my system and the error message didnt even remotely reflect what would have been causing this.

2. In Internet Explorer 6, when I refresh a web page, it prints html code on the top of the page, changing the look of the actual page and link colors. So, If I have to refresh a page, I am forced to press 'Enter' in the address bar or if I am browsing LQ, I click the 'Go' button at the bottom of the page to reach a forum again. If I press 'Refresh' it shows "Error in Page" in the status bar with the Yellow icon meaning a JavaScript Error..

Right now, I am browsing LQ with Firefox and everything's cool....And moreover, I don't need to think twice before pressing the Refresh button too

Cheers,

amit
