what do the different envelope icons mean next to threads in the forums and how can i delete a post i created? like when i start one then figure out the answer and want to delete the post before someone replies

If you scroll to the bottom of any forum there is a description of what the icons are. You cannot delete a post. If you have solved your own problem you should post the resolution, so that when someone else comes along with the same problem they will be able to use your solution.
The "envelopes" function as a "bullet" ; When they 're shown opened , it means there are new posts since you last read the specific thread.
If they're closed (and blue) : No new replies since your last visit have been posted.
And you can't delete your own posts.
In your scenario you'd best just edit the particular post.

i kinda figured that about deleting posts and i usually do update it with my resolution, just wanted to make sure
