embed videos into posts?

Hi!

Is it possible to embed a video into a blog post on this website? In my case the service is Vimeo, but Youtube also applies. I have a link and also the HTML embed code.

Sorry, I did search for all the key words I could think, didn't see an answer..

Is HTML ever on? Like if you're a Senior Member or a mod? Is it even dependent upon member status?

(also I think this would be more appropriate in LQ Feedback, no?)

no i think the only people who can post html are mods/admins and even then probably in certain forums
as for videos, wouldnt simply posting a link to a video be sufficient?

I also don't understand why can't you just post a link to a video?

Personally I find that approach less obtrusive and more versatile.

exactly, linuxquestions has these features disabled (such as [img] tags in forum posts) for a reason
that being to make the site as accessible to the widest range of audiences possible, including those who have slow internet connections (eg dsl or dialup)

Everything said here is true. Not sure about the mods/html bit though. <a href="http://www.example.com">Examples</a> can be posted to test it. IIRC, there is a cut down set of html commands available to all.

And I have moved this to LQ Suggestions and Feedback.

I think it's a bad idea. Just link to the video. Imagine if lots of people embedded videos into a thread, it would surely cause lag and instability.

Thanks for the feedback. We have no plans to allow embedded video at LQ at this time.

If a image is attached then it is automatically shown as thumb print of image at that post !
clicking on that redirects to full size picture.

Similarly when a video link is attached. If there is a 80 X 80 size video frame can be a good idea. Always linking to other sites ...? looks like promoting others. Why should LQ be fully featured forum ?

I hope we will see this feature soon.

Sweet! My first real post and I already cause some discussion!

I bring this up because the feature would really help out my LQ blog, specifically this post: Spanish Holiday Video.

I was hoping there would be BBcode like some other sites have implemented, though I would definitely second the suggestion above for a static image linking to the video. But I understand that it might be a hazard to the site.
