I've just looked at this forum in MS Internet Explorer, and notice that there's a spell check button that shown up in MSIE but not in other browsers. Clicking on this button invokes a program called "IESpell", which is aparently an adon to MSIE.
It seems rather ironic that the interface of a Linux forum should incorperate a tool that only works with a particular browser that doesn't even run on Linux.
I'm using Mozilla 1.7.3 under Windows at the moment (an out of date release I know, but I'm on a university machine and that's what's on it), and there's no spell check button when I post from this browser.

The WYSIWYG editor that we use has a built in IESpell component, but I thought I disabled it. We implemented a completely different spellcheck that works cross browser (and definitely works in Mozilla). Nothing at LQ does (or ever will) depend on IE.
Maybe being slightly pedantic, but that statement is completely untrue given that LQ does incorporate IESpell (as already mentioned).
On my XP box using either IE or Firefox, the spellcheck button does not show IESpell. Same with my linux computers.
As far as my computers are concerned, jeremy's statement is completely true.

I think you're confusing other other spell check button. The one that invokes IESpell is above the editing panel, next to the "double up" abnd "double down" arrows on the right. It only appears at all in IE, and when clicked on it does indeed invoke IESpell.
Jeremy's statement is indeed false, and that's still the case even if that fact is not observable on your computers.

The statement wasn't "LQ doesn't depend on IE", but "Nothing on LQ depends on IE". The fact that the IESpell button is on LQ, and it depends on IE, proves that that statement is false.

Just realised this, what WYSIWYG editor are you referring to?
I've regularly viewed LQ with a number of different browsers, and at no time did I see a WYSIWYG editor. Every time I've visited this site, I've seen the same editing panel which only displays the source code of the message. I'm pretty sure that LQ doesn't even use a WYSIWYG editor!

My statement is not false, IMHO. We implemented a spell checker from scratch that is 100% browser compatible. We obviously have a WYSIWYG editor available, or I wouldn't have said it. It defaults to standard for most accounts, but you can change it to WYSIWYG or basic. The IESpell bit is a built in component of the editor we use that is a stock part of the software. I'll reiterate that no functionality on this site will ever require IE and that includes spell checking.
