Deleting your post
If you submit a post and then realize you no longer need to post that information or you posted by mistake then how can you recall or delete your own post. I know you can edit the post and probably erase all but 3 or 4 words but I would like to know how to totally delete it.

You can also consider if anyone else could benifit from your mistake. If you posted a problem, then find the solution, post the solution as reply to your original post. (Replying will also remove it from the zero-reply threads - limiting exposure. You can also edit it so the word "fixed" or "solved" appears in the title and/or the first line.) Remember, no matter how dumb the mistake, there's always someone else doing it to keep you company - besides, a decent mistake can actually be better than a good question. What to do depends on the mistake. eg. Sometimes it's a accidental double-post. In which case it is acceptable to erase the lot and post "oops - double post" in it's place. In general, try to put the community good forward. This will build your reputation better than any correct answer. |
