delete posts?

Being here for less than a week, I obviously have no clue if this was implemented at one time and removed, but could it be possible to delete posts?

IE. I made a post yesterday, and 1) I recieved no replies, and 2) I managed to find some info on here I'd previously missed that helped me solve my problem.

Hence, there's no reason for the post anymore, and I want to delete it... but see no option anywhere to do so. (unless I'm just stupid and missed it, or because it's the first entry of a thread?)

Anywho, I think it'd be handy to be able to delete your own posts in case you change your mind about them.

If there's a reason why it's not an implemented feature, then I'm sure it's a good one.

Jeremy prefers not to delete posts, but to preserve them. It certainly helps with continuity. ;) The thing is, this is a help site - if a fix is posted it should be left so others can benefit from it, even if the original poster doesn't consider it necessary. In your case, a better response would have been to post that you fixed the problem and to post the fix - chances are that others will have the same problem and will want to know the answer. Too often, the last post is "I fixed it by myself" with no hint as to how it was done.

We are a community and this site is a community effort and the best way to help others is to supply fixes.

It is very unlikely to be implemented. The main reason that posts/threads are not deleted is that they are hopefully going to be around for an eternity.

If you solved a problem or found information that helped yourself then please post it as a reply to your own thread.

You never know, it may help someone else in the future and it will be available again for yourself should you ever need to look it up again.

I believe moderators can delete posts, but members cannot, for several reasons. Foremost of course is that other replies in the thread may contain info that is useful to other members, even if you change your mind about your own post, and additionally, deleting posts would complicate the post count and other statistics.

You do have the ability to edit your own posts, but if you decide that something you posted is no longer needed, my advice would be to just let it go and forget about it. -- J.W.

Only Jeremy can delete posts - mods can recommend/ask/suggest a deletion but the final decision and action lies with Jeremy.
