cookies expire much too quickly?

I've been bothered by this for quite a while, but never thought enough about it to post a question (thank you, beer)....
It seem that the cookies set in these forums expire very rapidly...perhaps it's triggered when you follow an external link, or take a short break while reading the forums....and i find that the "new post" icons often disappear in forums I haven't yet read. This leaves me guessing which threads I've read unless I read through everything quickly.

I generally use Firefox to read the forums, if that makes any difference.

The timeout is set to 900 seconds (15 minutes) which should leave you a fair amount of idle time.

Most browsers now have auto refresh options or at least plugins. I quite often set the latest post search to refresh every 10 minutes - this should help you get over the problem. Don't set it too low though - it will only eat into the bandwidth
