Consider not adding to threads which do not require more info

Intended for members who are on board with trying to keep LQ a cordial and inviting forum:

My intentions are to promote what this thread title says:

I will say self included, and that many of us could possibly be guilty of this from time to time.

There seems to be a "pile on" effect sometimes where we have a poor question which engenders a great deal of unnecessary replies. One of our members usually gets it right and advises the OP to read the rules, the FAQ, other proper references, and invites the OP to revise their question.

Unfortunately, many of us cannot leave that alone, so we chime in.

We do not always chime in with good civility, and further sometimes things end up with a number of members discussing the topic, or something related to it, and then nearly hijacking the entire thread.

Even if the replies are all cordial, we may have a very lengthy thread of discussion where the OP never returned.

The LQ rules and advice do actually guide us, albeit politely, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."

If you see a bad question and can't nicely say to the OP the correct advice, consider not replying.

If another member has already correctly handled it, consider not adding to that.

If another member has handled it poorly and been unhelpful, consider reporting their post and still not adding to the thread.

I have realised I fall into the trap of attempting to explain for a troll. I will work on that.

Always difficult to decide if a post did offer the best reply. Sometimes a second post may offer a different version or different way of saying a possible solution. You never know what an OP will find that helps. I'd assume most members can read reasonably fast.

Ok. I try and stay onboard with the spirit of this thread.

Trying daily to keep the flotsam and jetsam replies out of my post count. Even when baited.

Can you control your beloved Anti-X netbook

If I fail. I apologize.

Edit. My deleted post was going to mention bluetooth keyboard and mouse to control netbook and programming.
But I decided it might sound like chiding/argumentive. So I kept my mouth shut. Besides. I did not like the responders manners.

There are those who are so very argumentative, opinionated and so set on declaring their own opinions, supposed experience and anecdotal "evidence" as indisputable fact, as to make any interaction a waste of effort. Just use the ignore list.
