Chosing a folder for automatic subscription

Sorry, subject is too long for a really meaningful header :(.

What I mean is this: When one answers a question or just posts in a thread one automatically subscribes to this very thread. That is as it should be.

The subscription is added automatically to the folder "subscriptions" (I've got about 1000 threads subscribed right there  ). I also have other folders (like firewalls, modems etc.) which I'd like to be able to fill up as well.

So here is my suggestion: on first posting on an existing thread the user gets a popup / drop down menu with a list of her/his subscription folders. Chosing the appropriate folder (or even creating a new one?) by clicking then finishes off posting.

Would that be feasible and useful for others as well Jeremy / Mods?

LQ UserCP > edit options > Default Thread Subscription Mode?

JZL240I-U 11-23-2006 05:23 AM

No. That allows subscriptions to be added only to the standard "subscriptions" folder. I (and others, I'm sure ;)) have more than that single folder and I want to access those directly at the end of posting.

I see. OK. Only Jeremy can answer that.

concern- would it not get in the way? You want to reply, and have to click thru an annoying dialogue.

No it wouldn't. It would come up after you'd just answered and just asks where to store your hardwon ;) new subscription.

still annoying, IMHO. :D

Ah. You don't use different folders for your subscriptions then. Your choice ;). But the feature might be made as an option for guys like me who like their LQ experience at its most rewarding :p.

Got it in one! (re I don't sort my subscriptions- I have subscriptions? :) I just rely on the emails)

Ah, on a more useful note, perhaps a drop down menu below the text box to select the subscription folder. Is this something that you want to implement with the quick reply, the advanced reply or both? Perhaps the quick reply would default to, well, default folder?

(TG is staying up way to far past her bed time... needs to sleep and not post silly things. :) )

Hehe, did you check your subscription folder right now? :D

A drop down menu somewhere unconnected would have the problem to "catch" the subscription when you submit your post. Maybe it could be implemented as a drop down menu from the"Post (quick) Reply" buttons. I'd prefer it to be active from all "Post" buttons. But since it would annoy some memebers (like you?) a check box in the options seems perfect so everybody could chose...

I sometimes come back to old discussions when I learned something, just to check back -- I'm here for learning, after all.

Good night and sleep well :).

We don't currently have any plans to support this, but feel free to enter it into the bug tracker as a feature request for future consideration. Thanks.
